Lots of talk about justice out there…throw the word justice at the end of a phrase, and it’s easy to get people to latch and believe/follow what is being said. After all, who doesnt want justice? Is there anyone out there who would say that they don’t care about justice? Justice is a Biblical term and God cares about justice….so should we.
But, what about the word justice as it is used today? Economic justice, healthcare justice, racial justice, reproductive justice, environmental justice, social justice… the list seems to grow and expand all the time.
Justice as defined in Scripture is equal and fair, doesn’t favor anyone and shows no partiality (Lev. 19:15), favors neither the rich OR the poor (Deut. 16:19-20), is truthful (Ex. 20:16), doesn’t protect the guilty (Ex. 23:1-2), doesn’t accept bribes (Deut. 16:19), does not include revenge (Rom. 12:19), does not curse the accused or rush to judgment (Num. 35:10-13). I could go on and on.
Is this how justice is being used out there in the world, in politics, by those you u have conversations about justice with? We must first define justice Biblically…any other “justice” out there is not Biblical justice.
